Longtime Dakkanaut | Arma 2 is basically a very good combat simulator style game. It's the spiritual successor to operation flashpoint. The gaming environments are massive and the firefights are very realistic, you're often engaging enemies hundreds of meters away. Wasteland is a mod that borrows the environment and weapons from arma but turns everything on its head. It's currently only on one server hosted by TAW. Imagine a mod in which you're dropped into a 80 square kilometer map and you have to fight to survive. You need to scavenge for food, water, fuel, money, weapons and vehicles and pretty much everyone you encounter is hostile and trying to do the same. All the various resources and vehicles spawn randomly near urban centers and villages. Vehicles are all in various conditions and fuel levels. Weapons can be found on occasion in vehicles but mostly are purchased at any of the 6 designated gun stores located in safe zones that about a 200 meter radius. In addition to resources, there are many defensive structures like sandbag walls and bunkers that also spawn randomly all over the map. These can be picked up by players and placed anywhere on the map to create firebases or reinforce existing structures and compounds. These structures can be transported in vehicles and all vehicles have a transport capacity that ranges from about 3 ro 100. The bigger the structure the more space it takes up. Large vehicles like supply trucks can tow other vehicles to allow for more cargo capacity or simply to return a damaged vehicle to a base so the vehicle can be repaired. Every so often the game generates random events and ai enemies that will attack anyone. Some events include helicopter crashes, fuel trucks, enemy bases and so on. There are 3 primary factions, blufor, opfor and civilians. Generally bluefor and opfor work together in a loosely organized to very organized way. Civilians often comprise of smaller factions or sometimes work entirely alone killing anyone they encounter. Realistically nothing forces you to work with others at all but the game offers some very good incentives to work together. The only real rule is no killing in the safe zones, anyone who does that gets kicked. The serves generally runs for 12-20 hours before a refresh occurs and everything starts new. By that time, resources are almost all gone in terms of food and water. Here's some pix from the last couple of nights of playing. Worth noting that the firebases you see are 100% player made. They all had to work as team to collect all the various pieces and construct them together to make some truly impressive firebases and compounds.
Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Lone Wolf Sentinel Pilot | I love ARMA 2, and would love to see these images, but the links are all broken. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, how do I get this mod? sounds amazing. EDIT: links are working now. Would be really cool if it had civilian weapons, like shotguns and hunting rifles. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also what are your specs? I've never seen ARMA 2 look that good.

I7 8gb and like 300$ graphics card I think. It was put together for me, I'm rather stupid when it comes to hardware. Right now the mod is hosted on a single server, they're still tweaking it and adding new features. If you search TAW you'll find all of taw's servers. its the one that says 'taw_tonic wasteland'. In my opinion its better. Shooting from the hip you won't hit anything past 10 feet, you really have to go on one knee or better yet go prone to get accurate fire. Bullet drop is very real, you need to dial in your scope to get accurate fire. Running causes you to breath heavily and it can take a while to slow your breathing so running and gunning is next to impossible except for very close quarters shootouts. All the vehicles are realistic, you need at least 2 people to operate a tank. There are some videos on youtube, one in particular shows a sniper team killing a warlord from like 2 km in game. They have to not only use a rangefinder to dial in the scope but they also had to measure the wind using another in game device. It's a game that heavily rewards teamwork.

Longtime Dakkanaut | It will download when you join a server. Search 'wasteland' in arma 2's multiplayer and you'll find a bunch of servers. There's the original wasteland by taw_tonic and the newer better one by sa-matra. Click to join either one and it will download the mission file. Usually it's less than 4mb and download pretty quick.

404Wasteland:Chernarus Mission File
About
Version 2 - This is a compleate recode by Deadbeat with the changes the community wanted.Wasteland is a survival sandbox mission with hunger and thirst. Where you can build a base work as a team or go as a lone wolf, you have missions to keep you busy where you could find some people to hunt or just get some fancy toys to help you rule the server.
How To Host 404Wasteland
- If you own a dedicated server, you can follow the guide below and download our files and away you go.
- Pop over to http://tinyurl.com/wastelandserverhosting and rent a easy and ready to go server.
How To Setup A 404Wasteland Server
- Setup a arma2oa server. This can be compleated by downloading arma2 and arma2oa on to your server from somewhere like steam.
- Install Arma2 Beta - http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php
- Create a folder somewhere for your server to go. Copy all the files from 'Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead' to your new folder, then copy the 'Addons' folder from 'Arma2'
- Download the latest version of 404Wasteland.
- Put the files into your arma2 server folder.
- Edit the 'server.cfg' in the wastelands folder to your own liking.
- Arma2Net has two requirements, below are the download links to the C+ Redist and netframework 4. If these are installed please skip this step.
- OPTIONAL: You can download our battleye banlist/logfiles which contains our ban.txt and other script catching forms for battleye. They are all set to observe, you need to look at the generated *.log files to determine who/what has been hacking. You just need to copy the *.txt files in to your batteye folder.
The next step will change depending on how you host your server.
- Open the server.bat and edit the 'IP=x.x.x.x' and you should be able to instantly launch the server.
- Login to your hosted control panel and on the game server and you will need to change the command line so that it loads '-mod=@Arma2NET'
Troubleshooting
- We had trouble getting battleye to start up with the server which meant we couldn't run Arma2 Rcon admin on the server. If you are having problems after setting your rcon password, then you might want to add the following to your startup '-bepath=C:PATHTOBattlEye'We moved battleye into the wasteland folder on our server and pointed it to that.If you have any problems setting up your server, we will help you the best we can but cannot guarantee that your host/server will work as each setup varies. For support please use the 404games tech support forum located here http://www.404games....hnical-support/
- If you are getting waiting for host or the game is not loading correctly please make sure that you have copyied the 'Addons' folder from Arma2 to your Arma2OA folder as it contains lots of the servers requirements. (Guide Link Coming Soon)
- If missions are running then randomly stopping please make sure that you have updated your build to the latest version of wastelands as we released a hotfix to fix a broken mission.
- If missions are not running and you have Arma2Net running please make sure you have installed the two following requirements of arma2net. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24872 and http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328
